Benefits of an Electric Toothbrush

Often times, we get asked which type of toothbrush works best. A common debate is manual vs. electric, when it comes to toothbrush selection. Here at Access Dental & Dentures, we know it is important to brush twice a day, for two minutes each time. A better clean can actually be achieved by using an electric toothbrush. Your trusted dentist in Springfield, Missouri wants to provide some of the benefits an electric toothbrush offers over its manual counterpart.

Cleaning Power-

With a number of rotations and movements, an electric toothbrush can deeply scrub the surface of the tooth. While a manual brush only cleans as much as you make the toothbrush move, an electric moves on its own battery power. With a variety of moments, from spinning to side to side, your tooth will get cleaned from every angle possible.

Technology-

The technology offers great benefits for a proper clean. Many electric toothbrushes have a timer built in, to ensure your brush you teeth for the recommended two minute duration. Another feature some of the electric models contains is a sensor to ensure you are applying the right amount of pressure for the right clean. A newer model even lets you know when your teeth are thoroughly cleaned.

Power Options-

The rotation speed can be adjusted on most electric toothbrush brands, giving you the power when it comes to your teeth. The brush can adapt to sensitive teeth by simply lowering the rotation speed when brushing, on most models.

More Fun-

Whether you are trying to get your child excited about brushing his or her teeth or adding a little more fun for yourself, an electric toothbrush can do just that! Bring that excitement back onto your oral care routine!

Less Effort-

With the electric tooth brush making the movements, all the operator is required to do is move the brush over the tooth surface. No back and forth and scrubbing is needed with an electric toothbrush. For a better clean with less effort, consider an electric toothbrush today!

If you want to make the investment for a better clean for your teeth, an electric toothbrush offers a number of benefits for the user. From ease of use to increased cleaning power, the electric toothbrush cleans better with less effort required. While it is still important to brush twice every day, using the right toothbrush can help you accomplish the task for a better clean. Remember, if you have any concerns about your teeth, contact Access Dental and Dentures at 877-DENTIST to schedule an appointment!

How Holiday Treats Affect Your Teeth

With a big holiday weekend approaching, you may be attending a number of festive gatherings in the near future. A large feast and tasty treats usually go hand in hand with these get togethers. As you make your way to your holiday gatherings this holiday weekend, your trusted dentist in Springfield, Missouri wants to remind you of the damaging affects sugar has on teeth. Provided below, by Access Dental and Dentures, is how the holiday treats wreak havoc on your mouth.

How Sugar Damages Teeth:

When sugar is put into the mouth, natural bacteria starts to react. This reaction creates acid inside the mouth, which starts to eat away at the protective covering of the tooth, enamel. Once this acid builds up and wears through the enamel coating, it can then penetrate the tooth. As the bacteria makes its way into the tooth, a cavity is formed. If the cavity is not properly addressed, it can become very painful and cause further damage.

How to Combat Sugar Damage:

Regulate Intake

Try to keep your sugar intake at bay while enjoying meals with friends and families this holiday season. The less sugar you take in, the better chance you have at fighting cavities caused by bacteria build up.

Brush

It is recommended to brush your teeth twice every day. Spend 2 minutes cleaning your teeth, once in the morning and again before bedtime. Over the holidays, it is important to stick to your proper oral care routine to combat any additional treats in which you may indulge.

Floss

Once a day, it is recommended to floss between each of your teeth. Flossing helps remove food particles and plaque that has built up throughout the day. As you partake in more food and treats than normal, flossing becomes even more important. Remember to take the time to floss once a day!

Wash

A mouthwash is a great way to help remove bacteria from your mouth. For an overall fresh feel for your mouth, include a round of mouthwash into your daily oral care routine.

Now that you know a little more about the toll sugar takes on your entire mouth and how you can help protect your teeth, you are ready to make wise choices for your teeth this holiday weekend. We know it can be hard to avoid that desert table altogether, but remember the key to a healthy mouth is moderation of sugar intake, along with your oral cleansing routine. The best dentist in southern Missouri wants to remind you to watch your sugar intake at your upcoming holiday get togethers. The entire staff at Access Dental and Dentures wishes you and your family a happy, healthy Holiday weekend!

Gifts that Show You Care

As the holidays quickly approach, it is the time of year to make a number of gift purchases. This year, show your loved ones how much you care by giving the gift of oral care products. Whether you are looking for a few stocking stuffers or a nicer gift to wrap, there are a number of dental care products that can help check those names off your gift giving list. Your trusted dentist in Springfield, Missouri has provided some great gift examples to give this holiday season.

Oral Care Gift Ideas:

Electric Toothbrush

Often times, an electric toothbrush can clean more accurately than its manual counterpart. There are a number of options when it comes to choosing an electric toothbrush. One of this year’s popular electric toothbrushes syncs to a phone app and you can track how long it takes to thoroughly and properly clean your teeth.

Tooth Whitening Session

If a loved one has been talking about a brighter, whiter smile, give them a teeth whitening experience with Access Dental and Dentures. We create a custom tray to fit the patient’s teeth, as well as provided a recommended whitening agent for an optimum whitening experience.

Water Picks

A water pick can be very handy for cleaning teeth. Some refer to a water pick as water flossing, it can help clean hard to reach places in your mouth. A pick can easily clean around teeth and other appliances, like braces. For a convenient cleaning experience, consider giving a water pick this holiday season.

Stocking Stuffer Ideas:

Toothbrush Replacement

It is recommended that a patient change out their toothbrush or toothbrush head every three months. The holidays are a great time to give the gift, which your recipient will be in need of soon.

Mini Mouthwash

A mini mouthwash bottle will fit in a stocking nicely. It is a convenient gift to receive, especially when traveling to see friends and family around the holidays.

Travel Toothpaste

A little tube of toothpaste will pair nicely with a toothbrush in a stocking this year. Like a mini mouthwash bottle, a small toothpaste tube is convenient for those who are on the go during the holiday season.

Floss

It is recommended to floss once every day. Why not give a little of the gift your recipient will need to use? Whether it is a traditional spool of floss or a convent floss pick, the person who receives your gift will get good use out of it this coming year.

Now that you know some great gifts to give this holiday season, you are ready to get shopping. With a little over a week until Christmas, you have plenty of time to cross those last few people off your list with one of the oral care products listed above. Access Dental and Dentures want you to feel good about the gifts you give this year. Products in which your loved ones can care for their teeth top the list of gifts that show you care! The Ultimate Flossing Guide

The American Dental Association recommends flossing once every day. We know that flossing is usually the part of proper dental care that goes to the wayside. Your trusted dentist in Springfield, Missouri wants to help ensure flossing is part of your daily routine. Provided below, by Access Dental and Dentures, are steps to properly floss between your teeth as well as some other helpful tips!

Proper Flossing Steps-

Step 1: Unwind

About 18 inches of floss should be unwound and wrapped around the middle finger of each hand. Now pinch the floss between the thumbs and index finger, with about two-inches between. Use thumbs to maneuver floss toward the teeth.

Step 2: Guide

The two-inch gap between the fingers should be pulled tight. Now use the index fingers to direct the floss between two teeth.

Step 3: Glide

Gently wiggle the floss back and forth in a zig-zag motion. Avoid forcing floss between the teeth. Contour the floss against the outside of each tooth and down into the gum line.

Step 4: Slide

Move the floss up and down, in a sliding motion, against the two tooth surfaces. Also slide the floss below the gum line to clean beneath the surface.

Step 5: Repeat

Move your fingers to position a fresh portion of the floss between the next set of teeth. Repeat the above steps until you have flossed between each set of teeth in your mouth, then throw the entire piece of floss away.

Flossing Device

A hand-held flosser is more convenient for some patients. With this type of flossing, you still go through the five steps above. Snapping the flosser between two teeth is more common with a flosser, try to avoid this. The snap can be painful and cause damage to the teeth and gums.

Flossing with Dental Work

To avoid floss getting caught in your dental appliance, many patients with braces or other dental work, floss with a specific tool. Many times special orthodontic floss or a threaded can be used to maneuver the floss between teeth and around any dental work in the patient’s mouth.

Be Gentle

The key to flossing is to ease the floss between teeth gently. To avoid damage to the teeth or gums, ensure you take your time and use proper techniques to thoroughly clean between your teeth with floss.

Flossing is a very important part of your oral care regimen. If you do not floss, you miss 40% of the tooth surface in your mouth. Ensure you floss at least once a day for a healthy smile. Now that you know the importance of flossing, you are ready to start taking better care of your teeth. The best dentist in southern Missouri wants to help you take care of your oral health.
